The Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry of the University of Helsinki has the pleasure to invite you to the 2012 Public Seminar on Food, Fibre or fuel? Conflicts and Solutions. The seminar is part of the Helsinki Summer School courses offered by the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry in cooperation with several partners.

The objective of the seminar is to disseminate academic knowledge on the challenges and opportunities derived from the management of natural resources. Particularly, the seminar programme will deliver information about current issues that are affecting decisions within management of ecosystems and environmental services in agriculture and forestry. This year, the seminar concentrates on land use and land use change issues, putting particular emphasis on the trade-offs, opportunities and conflicts arising from competing productive activities.

The seminar consists of two sessions. In the morning, our invited experts will offer a global view of issues affecting the allocation of land for competing productive activities. In the afternoon session, a panel discussion, with a combination of international and local experts, will concentrate on issues affecting the African continent and in particular land grabbing.

Participation is free of charge and open to the general public. Due to limited space, we kindly ask you to send your registration in advance. The deadline for the registration is Thursday 16th August, 2012. The registration is now open via e-lomake: https://elomake.helsinki.fi/lomakkeet/13037/lomake.html

The seminar is co-organised by the Department of Agricultural Sciences, Department of Food and Environmental Sciences, Department of Forest Sciences and The Masters Degree Programme in Environment and Natural Resources MENVI.
